Kingsburg and Selma are joining forces with the Fresno County Rural Transit Agency to help improve the Valley’s air quality.

The cities have installed new solar-powered electric vehicle charging stations in town that are available to the public. Kingsburg’s is in a parking lot north of the library on Draper St while Selma’s is in a parking lot north of City Hall on Tucker St.

“It’s very progressive and cutting edge,” said Moses Stites, general manager of the Fresno County Rural Transit Agency. “Since they’re solar, they don’t work off the grid and they don’t cost a dime for anybody.”

Stites said the charging stations were paid for by funds from the California Transportation Department, Local Measure C and the San Joaquin Valley Air District.

Stites said that although it’s a small step toward decreasing air pollution, it is a step in the right direction.

We did it because it’s the right thing to do. We’ve got to start somewhere,” he said.
